He married Eunice Taber (203, 16-399) (February 14, 1798 - September 15, 1874) on November 30, 1814 in Breckenridge County, Kentucky, and they had eight children. Ambrose is listed in the Kentucky census for 1820 and the Illinois censuses for 1840 and 1850. Eunice is listed in the 1860 and 1870 Illinois censuses. The seven known children are:

Bandy who married James J. Samuels on September 23, 1860 in Edgar County, Illinois. The use of “Mrs.” in the marriage record suggests that she was widowed. There is no known reference to Hiram after the marriage.
