Archive extracts from various sources. We are happy to acknowledge these sources where they are known. We see value in raw sources, and welcome alternative sources for the same data because all these extracts are transcriptions, and transcription errors can occur. Each item of raw data, which is in the public domain and can be verified, does no more than give us a snapshot of an individual, or family group, at a particular time and place. That snapshot may reveal a family structure - often it does not. The genealogist's task is to link the occurrences of individuals in these snapshots together in the most probable way to create the whole story of each individual's life, and their relationship to others. Since we often cannot know for sure who was related to whom from these snapshots, we can only ever propose a best reasoned conclusion. One of the ways we can improve our chances of reaching the right conclusion is to have ALL the raw data and show that our conclusion is the only one that fits and uses all the facts. The only way we can hope to get ALL the raw data is to keep collecting and to publish our results so that others can spend their time researching new sources. | ||
